A few years back I wrote a Naive Bayes classifier in Clojure
and haven't done much with any form of machine learning (regardless of how rudimentary) since. To be honest, I was struggling to see practical applications for machine learning outside of things requiring massive neural networks. I've been able to spend some time digging deeper into machine learning and am finally starting to get a bigger picture on how a lot of things work (thanks to While True: learn()
and a plethora LinkedIn Learning
and Udemy courses on Machine Learning
). I've also been learning Rust and thought now would be a good time to build something slightly out of my comfort zone in Rust and a small statistics project seemed to fit the bill.

I started writing this article almost 2 years ago. While some things have changed (interests, time, priorities), I thought about this the other day and thought it was too neat to just let die. I came back into this article today and tried to fill out a few of the lesser detailed areas and decided to just hit publish to ensure the code, thoughts, and process was shared with you all. Sorry that it’s not of my usual quality.
